High-performance VDSL copper connection

What is Supervectoring?

Compared to VDSL, the Supervectoring extension offers a significant increase in the possible data rate. With Supervectoring – also known as Vectoring+, Super Vectoring, or Supervectoring 35b – the transmission frequency on existing copper lines is significantly increased again after vectoring. In practice, Supervectoring connections offer bandwidths of up to 300 Mbit/s downstream with significantly improved latency and stability values compared to classic VDSL.

How does Supervectoring work?

The following figures illustrate the difference between VDSL without Vectoring, VDSL with Vectoring, and VDSL with Supervectoring:

The graphic shows a normal VDSL connection. The data stream from a main distribution point is transmitted via fiber to a distribution box and then transported (for example) to households via copper cable.

The problems of VDSL without Vectoring:

A copper cable contains several smaller copper cores that are not shielded from one another
Interference between the copper cores impedes the data transmissions
Reception may be difficult
The bandwidth and range of the signal transmissions may be limited

The scenario is unchanged. Here, too, the data stream from a main distribution point is transmitted via fiber to a distribution box and then transported (for example) to households via copper cable.

Difference with Vectoring:

Special DSLAM (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer) in the distribution box
Measurement of interference in the copper cable and the individual copper cores
Sending an anti-cyclic signal to neutralize interference on the line
Downloads at up to100 Mbps

Compared to normal Vectoring, Supervectoring increases the frequency spectrum from 17 MHz to 35 MHz. Especially over short distances, this results in a significant speed gain of up to 300 Mbps between the distribution box and the router.

The R&S®LANCOM Supervectoring portfolio

In order to use Supervectoring technology as an end user, in addition to upgrading the distribution boxes, the appropriate router is also required for the respective connection. Supervectoring-enabled R&S®LANCOM Secure SD-WAN gateways and VPN routers offer the right model for every network size – including Wi-Fi 6, 4G, or 5G, as well as telephony migration from ISDN to IP-based connections.
